Roger Federer foi eliminado na primeira rodada do ATP de Dubai nesta segunda-feira. O britânico Andy Murray, 11º do ranking, foi o autor da façanha diante do suiço número 1 do mundo, em parciais de 6/7 (6), 6/3 e 6/4, em 1h53m.
Federer, que não disputava um torneio oficial há mais de um mês, perderá pontos no ranking mundial, já que defendia o título da competição. Murray, de apenas 20 anos, encara agora encara agora o espanhol Fernando Verdasco, que superou o alemão Rainer Schuettler por 2 sets a 1, parciais de 7/6 (7), 4/6 e 6/1.
Murray agora tem duas vitórias no retrospecto contra uma de Federer, que não perdia na primeira rodada em um torneio ATP, desde Indian Wells, há quase um ano, quando foi eliminado pelo argentino Guillermo Cañas.
